The Ghana Meteorological Agency has established over 300 weather-observing stations all over the country to take weather observations once every hour.

The information gathered is transmitted every three hours to the Central Analysis and Forecast Office located at the Kotoka International Airport, where all forecasts and warnings are issued, Dr. Ben Aggrey-Ntim, Communications Minister said in Parliament on Thursday.

He was responding to a question on plans to give accurate, regular and reliable weather report and warning to the public everyday.

He said severe weather such as approaching thunderstorms and strong winds are issued and sent to radio and TV stations for onward transmission to the public.

The Minister said a deployment of satellite receiving stations had made it possible for the reception of weather information "from a geostationary satellite located 36km over the Gulf of Guinea."

Later, members contributed to a statement on child prostitution made on the floor of the House by Ms Akua Dansua, (NDC-North Dayi).

They identified irresponsible parenting as a cause for the rise in the incidence of this social menace.

They also called into question the practice by some unpatriotic Ghanaians who rent out premises for people to engage in child prostitution.

Mr E.T. Mensah (NDC-Ningo Prampram) urged the Ministry of Women and Children to sponsor a bill that would ensure that parents, especially fathers, support their wards without leaving the burden of childcare on mothers.

Mr Stephen Balado-Manu, (NPP-Ahafo Ano South) said parents and churches should rise up to their responsibilities and complement efforts by religious and moral education teachers in the schools on instilling good moral behaviour in children.
