Kumasi King Faisal on Sunday lifted the ultimate trophy when they drew 1-1 with Accra Hearts of Oak in a Charity Cup match at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

The first leg match which was played at the Ohene Djan Sports stadium in Accra last week, Faisal pipped Hearts 1-0 and have thus won the Cup on a 2-1 goals aggregate.

The match was organised to raise funds towards the rehabilitation and other activities of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.

After a scoreless first half, it was Hearts who took the lead when their skipper Hamza Mohammed slotted in with a terrific shot in the 71st minute which Faisal’s goalie Osei Boateng failed to grab.

Faisal accepted the challenge and from then pile on pressure on Hearts in search for the equaliser and it came as no surprise when substitute Osman Bashiru brought his side on equal terms in the 80th minute.

The game from then on became fierce with both sides making series of efforts to carry the day but the two goal keepers, Boateng for Faisal and Joshua Akafia for Hearts exhibited good reflexes to prevent any balls from crossing their goal lines until Kumasi based referee David Nkrumah brought proceedings to and end.

After the match was watched by an average crowd, most of the Hearts’ fans blamed their players for not putting up their best performance to ensure their victory when it mattered most.
