Samia Nkrumah, the only daughter of Ghana’s first president Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, is confident of unseating the National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Jomoro constituency in the 2008 elections.

Samia has been elected the parliamentary candidate of the Convention People’s Party, a party founded by her late father.

She was though quick to add that the likelihood of her winning the seat “is not a possibility but a probability”.

Samia Nkrumah told Citi FM on Tuesday that she is launching into the Ghanaian politics “to rekindle the vision of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah”.

However, she said, she would not be riding on the past glory of the father.

“It is a great honour to be the biological daughter of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, but, I think people would have to judge me by my own person.”

She has visited the constituency about four times and noted that the people are crying for a change; and noted that the “strong support” she is enjoying from the people is what is urging her on.

“I have toured about 30 electoral areas and the support from the people is very strong,” she said.

Samia Nkrumah said she has already identified and prioritized the urgent needs of the constituents, which she promised to solve with their supports.

She also hoped to tap on her international experience to develop the Jomoro constituency.

“The years I have been away have given me the experience, an international context and connection; and I hope to put all these to good use to the development of the constituency, and from there to the whole country.’

Meanwhile, the MP for Jomoro, Lee Ocran has challenged her residential eligibility

He also said her presence meant nothing to him, because, he has done more for the people to merit another term.
