Parties lack structures in Upper West

About four months to the Presidential and Parliamentary elections in the country, party offices in the Upper West Region are yet to function to meet the demands of their supporters.

The few party offices available are either closed up without attendants or turned into private tailoring shops, while there are no offices at all for some parties in the region.

All these came up when the GNA went round to find out how the various political parties were preparing towards the forthcoming general elections on December 7.

While the offices of National Democratic Congress (NDC) New Patriotic Party (NPP), Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), Convention People’s Party (CPP) and Democratic Peoples Party were all closed, those of People’s National Convention (PNC) and United Ghana Movement (UGM) were occupied by private tailors.

GNA’s investigations also revealed that parties such as Ghana Consolidated People’s Party, (GCPP) United Love Party (ULP) and other newly formed ones had no constituency and regional offices.

Mr. Kate Caezar, Regional Secretary of NDC in an interview with the GNA said his party had attendants and wondered why their offices were not opened.

He promised to keep the office opened to the public to ensure that decisions were taken there to enable the NDC to win massively in the region.

Hafiz Binsalih, NPP Regional Youth Organizer attributed the absence of people in their office to relocation.

He said the party was moving their regional office to a new place that was undergoing renovation.

Mr. Binsalih said they had put up strategic plans that would enable them to win in the region that had often remained their “Waterloo.”

Mr. Abu Mumuni, CPP regional chairman also told the GNA that his party was preparing fervently to get parliamentary candidates for the ten constituencies of the region.

He said so far only three candidates in Wa Central, Nadowli East and Lambussie had expressed interest and there was the need to intensify campaigns to whip up the enthusiasm of the people.
