Mrs Josephine Hilda Adusa Addo, Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwadaso, Kumasi, became the first casualty in the ongoing NPP primaries in the region, when Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, an economist, polled 42 votes to become the constituency's NPP candidate for the December election.
The MP polled 30, while Mr. Alex Adusei trailed behind, polling 10 votes.
Dr. Akoto 58, currently the Chairman of the Manifestoes Committee of the National Campaign Committee of the NPP, says the Kwadaso constituency needed a strong voice in Parliament, to champion the developmental agenda of the area.
“Kwadaso needs a certain national political profile, to attract needed resources to rehabilitate the infrastructure," he said.
He said his bid was occasioned by the lack of change in the area, after four years of representation of the constituents in Parliament.
“The MP's poor showing in Parliament, has made her unpopular," hence the need for him to roll out his vision for the constituency, to attract its fair share of the national cake, in line with the developmental agenda of the party.
According to Dr. Akoto, the Kwadaso constituency, which has 14 communities in the Kumasi metropolis, is backward, especially when people queue in order to attend nature's call. "I hate to see such scenes at Kwadaso, which is supposed to be part of Kumasi," he said.
At the Subin primary, the former Ghana Ambassador to the UK, Mr. Isaac Osei, polled 52 to secure the NPP ticket for the constituency.
Mr. Eugene Antwi, the UK/Ireland NPP branch secretary, secured 34 votes, while Mr George Ayisi-Boateng, got 18 votes.
The Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, and former Regional First Vice Chairman of the party, Osei Assibey Antwi, lost to Dr. Matthew Nana Poku Prempeh, alias Napo, at the Manhyia constituency primary, held at the Georgia Hotel.
Dr. Prempeh won with a massive 82 votes, while the Deputy Minister polled 43 votes.
