The Deputy Minister-designate for Trade and Industry, Rev Dr. Owusu-Bi, whose appointment was rejected by parliament’s Appointment Committee, says he did not lie or tell an untruth during his vetting.

The Committee by a majority vote disapproved of Rev Dr. Owusu-Bi’s nomination, citing untruths and inconsistencies in his submissions.

One of the main charges against him was that he lied about a housing project he undertook for a district when he was a member of the assembly, raising possible issues of conflict of interest.

But Rev Dr. Owusu-Bi speaking from his base at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology where he is a Senior Research Fellow of the Bureau for Integrated Rural Development, told Joy News he genuinely couldn’t recollect the date and time of the project during the vetting.

He said he was disappointed, not because of the opportunity he would miss to work with the government, but because the allegations made against him were all false.

"They said I was a DCE or a presiding member, and I used my position to take a loan which never appeared at the committee. what actualy transpired was that they asked me if I had ever taken a contract from the district assembly and I said no and then they referred to a particular project in a community called Twifo-Kyebi and they said I did it and I said yes I did it but it was a research..."

Rev Dr. Owusu-Bi has scheduled to address a news conference tomorrow to respond to the Appointment Committee’s report, but he has also questioned issues raised about his title as a Rev. Minister, explaining that not all pastors are ordained from a seminary.
