Right Reverend Dr Livingstone Komla Buama, outgoing Moderator of the E.P. Church has admonished those in authority to exercise that authority to please God rather than themselves. He was delivering a sermon on the theme: “Authority, Legal Power and Right”, at the thanksgiving and ordination service to mark the end of the 67th Synod of the church under the theme: “Called to Serve”. “Authority is of God and from God,” he said. Rev. Buama observed that any elevation of the creature to the height of the Supreme Being is tantamount to idolatry. He said those who played God tended to have bloated egos which drove them to commit unimaginable transgressions against God and their fellowmen. Rev Dr. Buama said being a Moderator or Pastor does not give one the legal right to talk down or lord it over others. As a Moderator, “I have not added anything to who I am. I am still Asong Komla, I have not become taller, bigger or any superior to anybody,” he said. He said the co-operation among Trinity, God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Only Spirit is a perfect example of the collaboration and co-operation required of Christian leaders in their relationship with those they are chosen to lead. Rt. Rev Awanyo, Moderator of the E.P. Church of Togo urged the newly ordained ministers to live by the Synod theme: “Called to Serve”. The newly elected Moderator of the Church, Rev. Francis Amenu said he and Rev. Godwin Osiakwa, the new Clerk of the General Assembly of the Church were humbled by the new offices to which they have been elected. “”we are mere nonentities in the service of God and his Church,” he said. Rev. Amenu urged members of the Church to be instruments of peace in the run-up to, during and after the December 2008 elections. This, he said, would demonstrate their commitment to peace as shown during the peaceful elections that brought them into office.
