“My father has some few weeks to die, so give me GH¢800 as advance payment for his room for two years, pending his death," a 35-year-old part-time teacher, John Harding told a prospective tenant in Accra.
After two weeks when John's father "refused" to die, he promised to eject a tenant from their Sakaman home to pave way for Maame Harding, the complainant, to move in temporarily until his father's final departure to eternity.
John later informed Maame that the room was finally vacant and that he needed to refurbish it before she could move in.
Maame waited patiently for about a month for the renovation works to complete but this was not to be. Maame was shocked to find out that another tenant had moved in.
When he approached John for her money, he failed to produce it.
Maame therefore reported the matter to the Kaneshie Police who effected John's arrest.
The Kaneshie Divisional Crime Officer, DSP Ebenezer Oppong who disclosed this to the Spectator, said since April, John has not been able to refund the money.
He will be arraigned before court soon.
