Comment: Honourables indeed!

Just under a week ago, I posted a comment on this page captioned "SACK THIS KOKONTE MINISTER: ASA B PROVES WRITER RIGHT" and I received mixed reactions from fellow Ghanaians. I received a number of e-mails clearly siding with me and urging me on to write more.

Others encouraged me to even send the piece to be published in a local newspaper. As expected, others felt I had bitten more than I could chew and sent me damning and abusive e-mails. What did I do wrong?

But for God and country (apologies to Kwame Sefa Kayi who is noted for this expression), I will not stop saying what I’ve got to say.

I was engaged in one of my favourite pastimes this morning (listening to the Super Morning Show on Joy 99.7FM), trying to get myself abreast of happenings in and around the country whilst on my way to work. At some point in the programme, the host Kojo Oppong Nkrumah talked of a press statement from the office of the former president accusing Hon Kennedy Agyapong of being a drug dealer among other things. This article is not about whether the "honourable" is a drug dealer or not (may be some day I will talk about that)

As expected Kojo called the "honourable" to react to the press statement whilst holding the NDC national youth organiser on another line.

Hon Agyapong was allowed to make his submission and then Kojo rightly turned to the NDC organiser to respond to his comments. It was at this point that the name "honourable" was dragged through the mud entirely by the "Honourable" Kennedy Agyapong - the man kept using abusive, rude and vulgar words forgetting that he was speaking to the same people who put the tug "honourable" on him. It is strange as to how these so called "honourables" do not consider what they want to say before doing so.

"Hon" Kennedy Agyapong should be ashamed of himself. He should bow his head down in shame and quickly apologise to the discerning listeners of Joy. Not even Kojo's constant reminder to him not to use such words was enough to stop this "honourable" man from using words which will not exactly pass as civil to any level-headed person.

The honourable had already put his credibility at stake when he jumped onto the campaign platform to support Dr Bawumia's nomination days after he was heard on Joy categorically disagreeing with the idea and openly deciding not to campaign for his party should Dr Bawumia be chosen. As if that was not enough he has once again to put his grooming and civility up for questioning.

I cannot fathom what this man would be contributing on the floor of parliament when debates are on-going.
I cannot imagine what he would tell his children should they start misbehaving and abusing each other in the house. After all, the offspring of a lion does not eat grass!

The people of the Central Region should take note and not elect another "Kennedy Agyapong" for the people Ghana. We deserve better parliamentarians.
