Shoddy road works in the country have been blamed on corrupt officials at the road ministry.
The National Treasurer of the Association of Road Contractors, Mr. Kwesi Denkyi said the some of the poorly executed road works were done by incompetent contractors who were awarded road contracts because they had relationships with people in the ministry.
He told Joy News that many engineers and road project supervisors also accepted bribes and glossed over poor works.
“If you know what you are doing and have the country at heart you will not take money and pass shoddy work,” he said.
There have been persistent complaints about newly constructed roads being washed away by the slightest rain.
That the Road Contractors Association Treasurer says can be placed at the doorsteps of corrupt officials and supervisors.
Mr. Denkyi advised project supervisors to reject corrupt contractors and insist on the right thing to help the country get value for money.
He stressed the need for a legal backing for the association which he said will help it to sanction members who poorly execute jobs.
According to him, international construction firms will be required to be members of the association to ensure they do not short-change the nation.
