The United States of America Embassy in Accra has spent more than one million dollars in grants to support groups, communities and villages to undertake 370 initiated development projects throughout the country for the past 18 years under its Special Self Help Programme.

The projects were to promote individual and community empowerment through increased access to help care, income generation projects, vocational, technical and basic education.

Mr Daniel Katz, Economic Officer at the Embassy, announced this at the inauguration of a 45,000-Ghana cedi three classroom block for T.I. Ahmadiyya Primary School at Nkawkaw in Kwahu West Municipality.

The block will also include a library and a resource centre.

He said the embassy spent 5,200 dollars to provide roofing sheets, cement, timber boards, doors, windows and paint to complete the project within seven months and commended the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), the Headteacher, Mr Joseph Acquah, local members of Ahmadiyya Mission and the community for their co-operation and supervision to complete the project.

Mr Katz said it was one out of 12 selected from 350 applications received last year for funding and advised the school authorities to ensure regular maintenance of the building to benefit more children to enhance their education.

Mr Noah Dwamena, Kwahu West Municipal Director of Education, advised the teachers and pupils to take advantage of the facility and ensure effective teaching and learning to enhance standard of education in the school.

He urged parents to take interest in their children’s education and provide them with their educational needs to enhance their performance.

Mr Joe Nyakamawu, Deputy Kwahu West Municipal Co-ordinating Director, commended the embassy for the assistance.

Maulvi Masoor Zahid Ahmed, Eastern Regional Missionary in-charge of Ahmadiyya Mission, advised teachers to assist the children to study hard to pass their examination to become responsible citizens in future.

He said the mission would co-operate with government to provide the needed assistance to improve teaching and learning in the school.
