The Winneba Magistrate’s Court has sentenced an auto mechanics from Gomoa Buduatta to two years imprisonment with hard labour, for assault.

Kwesi Akomani pleaded guilty and the court presided over by Mr. Ali Baba Abature sentenced him accordingly.

Narrating the fact of the case to the court, prosecuting Police Chief Inspector Paul Adamah, said the accused is a hardened criminal with several cases pending against him and his docket has since been sent to Attorney General’s office in Cape Coast for advice.

He said the complainant, known as Adjei is also a suspect and both of them were being kept in the Winneba police cells.

He said on July 6, 2008 at 2300 hours, policemen on duty at the charge office heard an unusual noise at the male cells, and when they went to the scene, to their dismay they saw the complainant with big swollen upper lip with bruises on his face.

The police asked the complainant the cause of his swollen face and he told them that the accused had ordered him to bend down, claiming that he (accused) was the chief supervisor in the cells, and when he refused to do so, he poured urine on his face and also punched his face several times.

According to Chief Inspector Adamah, when the accused was confronted he admitted committing the offence.

The complainant was later sent to the Winneba Government Hospital, where he was treated and discharged, and after investigations the accused was arraigned before the court and charged with the offence.

After the sentence, the Magistrate ordered that the accused be sent to the Nsawam Prisons to serve the sentence.
