Commercial drivers in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis have threatened to embark on a sit down strike if city authorities fail to stop other drivers operating away from designated lorry parks.

The angry drivers say the activities of their ‘unstationed’ colleagues are affecting their business.

They complained that passengers are being prevented from patronizing their services and have therefore called on the STMA to check the springing up of unapproved loading by the road sides.

John Laste, public relations officer of STMA told Joy news the problem would be rectified soon.

He said 30 drivers have so far been arrested in an operation mounted about two weeks ago to get rid of drivers indulging in the illegal act.

“They have been prosecuted. Some were fined and others cautioned,” he said.

The exercise is being conducted in conjunction with the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU).
