The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has decried the falsehood peddled recently by some Accra-based radio stations on the retirement and appointments of Commanders and promotions of others, calling on stations to desist from deceiving the public.

“The Military High Command wishes to state that there is no truth in the news report being speculated and propagated by these radio stations”.

“We wish to state categorically that the news reports are totally false and embarrassing to the Ghana Armed Forces. The stations should desist from feeding the public with falsehood,” said a statement issued in Accra on Tuesday by the Directorate of Public Relations of the GAF.

The statement said some radio stations had been reporting of an imaginary retirement of the Chiefs of the Army Staff and the Navy Staff and the appointment of the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Southern Command and the Director, Army Peacekeeping Operations as the new Chief of Army Staff and the GOC Southern Command respectively.

It said there were appropriate procedures and channels through which promotions and appointments in the Armed Forces were made and advised the media to cross check their facts and ensure the credibility of sources before going public.
