A member of the Board of Governors of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND), Mrs Leticia Osafo-Addo has said that for any country to make any meaningful progress, it must invest heavily in education.

She noted that, the provision of infrastructure, teaching and learning materials and adequate training of teachers were essential for quality education delivery.

Mrs Osafo-Addo was speaking at the 35th anniversary and second Speech and Prize-Giving Day of the Anglican Senior High School in Kumasi, under the theme, ”Enhancing Academic Excellence Through Infrastructural Development”.

She said with the intervention of micro-processors, a wide range of opportunities have been introduced, adding that, “Today, distance is no longer a limiting factor for the acquisition of knowledge and information.”

Mrs Osafo-Addo said Ghanaians must be creative in the design and implementation of infrastructural projects, adding, “it is also necessary to have ingenuity, precision and decisive action to orient and implement whatever we intend to do.”

The Board Member, however, emphasised that, to finance such huge and major infrastructure projects, there was the need to use investment instruments like bonds, debentures and trust funds.

Mr Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, Regional Director of Education said the government has put in a number of interventions to address and enhance the issue of infrastructural developments in the education sector.

He said despite the encouraging improvement in infrastructural development, there were still some schools with deplorable buildings and educational facilities, which was a challenge not to only the government, but also to district assemblies, the GETFUND, donor agencies and individuals.

Education, he said, must help to create the wealth with which the nation could pursue worthy objectives with a high level of cultural development and a stable system of democratic governance.

Mr Onyinah noted that, the government was guided in its actions by the conviction that, formal education contributed in a systematic way to the realization of the national vision for a new and better country.

Mr Samuel Boateng, Executive Director of Kessben Group of Companies and an old student, donated $12,000 to the school.
